Sadly, but also gratefully, we remember
of our longtime chairman and honorary chairman
Heinrich Kuhbier
7. 3. 1934 - 13. 8. 2024
Personal member of the Wittheit
Winner of the honorary award for the Heimatpreis der Wittheit
Far beyond his 18 years as chairman, he has left a lasting mark on our association, also by motivating the working groups in their activities through his friendly human interaction and encouraging many to actively engage in scientific observations.
On countless excursions along the coast, in the harbor and in many other places in the northwestern German landscape, he enthusiastically explained the diversity and special features of the flora and gave lively and exciting reports in many evening lectures about his travels to botanical peculiarities between North America and China.
For over 60 years, the Übersee-Museum was the center of his life, where he was able to develop into a recognized scientist who also made a name for himself internationally as a botanist and florist on the northwest German coasts, on the Pitiusas, the Canary Islands and in Costa Rica. Within the framework of the Wittheit, he has rendered particular services to the preservation of the prize for local history research. His many successful activities remain an incentive for our future work.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Riensberger Friedhofes, Friedhofstr. 51. Registration not required.
